Tuesday After Palm Sunday: Teaching, Tension, and Truth
Tuesday After Palm Sunday: Teaching, Tension, and Truth
By Tuesday of Holy Week, the tone in Jerusalem had shifted dramatically.
Sunday was filled with cheers.
Monday brought confrontation.
And now, on Tuesday, Jesus was in teaching mode—but with intensity.
The countdown to the cross was ticking. Every moment mattered.
What Did Jesus Do on Tuesday?
Tuesday was one of the busiest and boldest teaching days of Jesus’ ministry. According to the Gospels (particularly Matthew 21–25, Mark 11–13, and Luke 20–21), Jesus returned to the temple courts and taught publicly all day long. But these weren’t feel-good devotionals. They were sharp, challenging, and unmistakably prophetic.
Here’s a glimpse at what He covered:
Confronted the religious leaders with parables that exposed their hypocrisy (Matthew 21:28–46)
Debated the Pharisees and Sadducees on taxes, resurrection, and the greatest commandment (Mark 12:13–34)
Pronounced the “Seven Woes”—a public rebuke of the religious elite for their pride and legalism (Matthew 23)
Predicted the destruction of the temple and gave the Olivet Discourse, a teaching on end times and His return (Matthew 24–25)
What Was Jesus Thinking?
Jesus knew these were His final days of public ministry.
He wasn’t holding back. He was pulling the curtain back on everything:
✔️ The brokenness of the religious system
✔️ The urgency of repentance
✔️ The reality of judgment and His return
This was a full-force push toward truth because love sometimes looks like clarity.
Jesus also likely felt the weight of time. He was walking toward suffering but still chose to give His all—offering the people one more chance to see the light before darkness came.
How Did the Disciples Feel?
Tuesday must have been overwhelming for the disciples.
Mentally taxed by the intense debates and teachings
Emotionally tense as they saw the rising hostility from religious leaders
Spiritually stretched as Jesus unpacked future events they didn’t fully understand
Uncertain, but still trusting—trying to piece together what kind of Kingdom Jesus was building
Imagine hearing Jesus talk about the end times, persecution, and staying watchful… all while knowing something big was coming but not yet grasping the full picture.
What Does This Mean for Us?
Tuesday of Holy Week reminds us that truth and tension often go hand in hand.
Jesus wasn’t afraid to speak boldly. He stood for what was right, even when it stirred opposition.
Ask yourself:
Am I listening when Jesus speaks hard truths?
Do I let Him correct my assumptions about religion, success, or righteousness?
Am I prepared to live faithfully, even when the future feels uncertain?
Final Thought
Tuesday was not a quiet day in Jerusalem. It was a day of confrontation, conviction, and clarity.
And yet, in all the noise, Jesus was focused—not on protecting His life, but on giving it.
Let’s lean into that kind of courage and truth today.
