Equipping Leaders to Transform Communities: The Vision of Global Training Network

At Global Training Network (GTN), our mission is clear: to provide high-quality biblical and theological training to thousands of indigenous church planters, pastors, and Christian leaders across the Majority World.

These leaders are then empowered to equip and guide their congregations in evangelizing and discipling their communities for Christ, creating lasting spiritual and societal impact.

Why the Majority World?

The Majority World—encompassing Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America—is home to at least 75% of the world’s Christians. Yet, according to the Langham Partnership, 80% of pastors in these regions lack formal biblical training. This gap often leads to challenges such as leadership crises, false teaching, and even the spread of a distorted gospel message.

For example, in Uganda, the church faces a critical leadership shortage. As The Gospel Coalition International Outreach notes, the absence of trained leaders can result in abuses of power and theological errors, further compounding societal struggles.

Scripture emphasizes the need for sound doctrine, urging pastors to “teach what accords with sound doctrine” (Titus 2:1 ESV). Without proper training, leaders risk preaching “a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you” (Galatians 1:8 ESV).

The Barriers to Quality Training

For many Majority World pastors, accessing quality training is an uphill battle. Common challenges include:

• High Costs: Training programs are often prohibitively expensive.
• Limited Availability: Resources and opportunities for theological education are scarce.
• Family Obligations: Many leaders juggle ministry with family responsibilities.
• Persecution: Christian leaders in some regions face hostility and danger.

GTN’s Strategy for Overcoming Barriers

Global Network Training works to overcome these obstacles by offering accessible, culturally relevant training. We believe that equipping national pastors—who already understand their community’s language, culture, and customs—is the most effective way to spread the gospel. As one Congolese pastor shared after completing GTN training:

“I am a much better, more effective person and pastor since I received GTN’s training… not only am I testifying to the significant changes in my life and ministry, but the people I lead are testifying to it also.”

This model aligns with the wisdom of missionary William Borden, who once asked, “If you see ten men trying to lift a log, nine of them on the light end and one on the heavy end, where will you step in to help?”

Impacting Lives Through Training

Since 2004, under God’s blessing, GTN has:

• Trained over 330,000 pastors and leaders worldwide.
• Reached an estimated 33 million people through these pastors, with each pastor serving an average congregation of 100.

The ripple effects of this training are undeniable. Communities are being transformed as pastors teach, disciple, and lead their congregations to embody Christ’s love. As GTN co-founder Paul Madson shares:

“Over and over, when we go back to many of these same cities and villages, we see pastors that are more mature, congregations that have grown deeper in their walks with Christ, and even entire villages that have been transformed because of a church that has learned what it’s supposed to be and do.”

Currently active in over 84 countries, GTN is poised to expand into 10 more nations. Each new door represents an opportunity to train leaders who will carry the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) and the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:34-40) to their families, neighborhoods, and beyond.

At the heart of GTN’s mission is the glorious vision of Revelation 7:9-12:

“A great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb…”
